EXPERIENCE THE MUSIC OF OUR OWN THIng chorale

Join us for our annual concert of holiday music written and or arr. by African American musicians. This year's concert will feature Margaret Bond's Ballad of the Brown King. This 1964 work was inspired by and dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. With text by Langston Hughes this Christmas music presents a variety of different styles for the enjoyment of all.

Winter Concert 2025

Please join LaVonté L. Heard, Music Director and Lamar Willis, Assistant Director/Accompanist with the Our Own Thing Chorale for an evening of chorale music at Bethel AME in Ann Arbor. The concert is free and open to the public. Livestream will be available here at concert time .

This festive concert event will feature seasonal music by African American composers and arrangers including Roland Carter, Charles Garner, and Joel Thompson, as well as a carol sing for all to enjoy. Special thanks to Bethel AME Church for hosting and joining us in song.
